Because Azatara owns the entire world of the other side, the full extent of their powers are not known to the believers of the Vopan faith. The god is shrouded in mystery.
Azatara owns the entire dimension of the astral plane. When Dijiva laid the egg that held both worlds, Azatara and Vesi, Azatara became the ruler of one world, while Vesi controlled the other. The fight to win dominance over their egg ended early when the egg split in half, leaving both worlds to remain underdeveloped and connected. In the last moments before the egg broke, Azatara sank their teeth into Vesi's body. The teeth went on to become wormstone.
Because Azatara owns the entire world of the other side, the full extent of their powers are not known to the believers of the Vopan faith. The god is shrouded in mystery.
Pemija describes Azatara thusly in the Parasoza, the sacred text of the visions of Sumiga:
King of Dust, king of magic,
The Great Eater, and my ultimate ancestor,
defines the edges of the world
swollen with the force of life inside
awaits the return of its teeth
where only holes now remain.
The symbol of Azatara is a mouth with several missing teeth. They can also be represented by half an egg shape with a circle representing Pemija's eye, which over the years has been simplified to a single half circle with a circle inside of it.
As described in the Parasoza, the longest night of the year belongs to Azatara, as that is when the border between the two worlds is thinnest.
Azatara wants their teeth back and revenge on Vesi for keeping them for so long, despite it being out of Vesi's control once the egg hatched.
Azatara's physical form consists of all of the matter in the astral realm.
The loss of their teeth is considered both a deep failure and an accomplishment. The bite itself was a success, but they had their victory snatched from them. This distress caused them to vomit astral particles, beginning the process of life for astral creatures.
Azatara only seeks revenge. While they may align themselves with others, such as Pemija, who want to help them achieve their goals, they are not averse to destroying any obstacles, even former allies.
In the ferocious battle between Azatara and Vesi, Azatara considered themselves to be on the brink of victory when the egg hatched open prematurely, robbing them of the chance to finish the job. While Pemija assures their believers that Azatara only wants the return of their teeth, Azatara seeks revenge on the other world and hopes to destroy it, consuming it into their own.
