Oosh is the god of salt, one of the three Raron elements, with the
other two being water (the god
Aÿ) and air (the god
Roosaaf). While the other two gods are elemental deities and respected by
the
Raron people, Oosh is a favorite and common household deity to pray to. Even
young children sing songs in his honor before they attend their
first sacrifices in his name.
Divinity
Divine Domains
Oosh has dominion over salt. In myth, salt is synonymous with
substance. Life must have salt in order to survive. The idea
comes from the richness of the salty lakes and oceans and all of
their abundance, but also in the taste of body fluids. Salt is
solidity and strength, mass, the resistance against gravity.
Because salt is such a fundamental part of nature and is
actively tangible, more so than the ideas of water or air, Oosh
is the deity whom many believers go to first when it comes to
matters of life.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
The most common symbol of Oosh is the
unyozeo, or salt snail. The snail only lives in the salty waters of
Lake Raro and is thus synonymous with the water. The circular
nature of the shell is accentuated, and is usually displayed
with the zodiac or with the cyclical nature of his
transformations.
Over time, the triangle became associated with Oosh,
representing the three different forms he takes as well as the
three elements.
Tenets of Faith
Oosh believers adhere to the idea that there are three elements.
Water and air must be balanced, and salt makes up the
foundational element of the world. Salt is also a key component
of magic, so faith in Oosh strengthens one's magical abilities.
Holidays
Oosh has many regular holidays. Whenever the smaller moon is
full, people pray to him in gratitude for their bodies, family,
and physical things in their life.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Oosh is a shapeshifter who takes many forms. Originally, his
form was that of a Rarite without a tail, but over time when
more Rarons were Sela, he began to adopt a Sela form without
legs, only a tail. His Ildoar form has very large tusks and with
a round snout rather than a tentacled star-like shape.
Identifying Characteristics
While shapechanging, Oosh maintains eyes that are clumps of
salt.
Physical Quirks
His eyes will dissolve in water, such as when Oosh cries, but
the salt can be replenished.
Mental Characteristics
Personal History
Like the other elemental deities, Oosh has always existed as
long as the world has existed. The idea of substance itself,
required for existence, is within Oosh's domain.
To some, Oosh created the entire world by himself and the other
two deities expanded upon that which he made, but to others he
was created alongside the other two as the world created itself.
Gender Identity
Oosh is recognized as being a shavve and uses the pronouns
he/him. There are other depictions of him as other genders as
part of his ability to shapeshift, but he is still usually
referred to with he/him pronouns.
