Veinhouses

the Grand River Magicians

In the north of the continent of Zige, there are several large rivers called the Veins. The largest is the Gheh̨u River and the smallest is the Powoba River. Each Vein houses a spirit called a zibeke, and the Veinlords are vessels that the zibeke inhabits. These powerful magicians are the governing forces along the banks of the rivers that they live on.

They have great power, but they are prone to squabbling amongst themselves. The majority of the Veinlords are Kalora people, but one, the Powoba Veinlord, is a Paban. The two cultures have historically disagreed, but even amongst the Kaloran Veinlords there is a lot of petty infighting.

Structure

The Veinlords do not have an official structure amongst themselves. Theoretically, they are all equal; however, the Veinlord of the Gheh̨u River has the most magical strength, the longest line of succession, a semi-central location, and controls an area along a well-known and profitable trade route. As such, they have immense sway in the group. Some say too much.

Culture

The Veinlords understand and believe in the power of water to heal and change the world. While they have allegiance to their rivers and the people of those rivers, they also respect and worship the ocean and the inland sea Lake Raro as necessary parts of the world that make up the basics of who they are.

Public Agenda

Because they rule over the local areas, their public agenda is to keep their people happy, fed, educated, and in peace.

Despite their tendencies to fight amongst themselves, they are dedicated to pacifism and have never thought about going to war against each other, even at the most dramatic of times.

History

The first Veinlord was Nopa Ngute.

After the Gheh̨u River, the next Veinlord was of the river to the north, Powoba. Then the Veins along the eastern coast, from north to south, gained their own Veinlord.
